Shin Souseiki Ragnacenty is one of those Genesis RPGs that slipped under the radar back in the day, but man, it’s got this weird charm to it. You start off picking between three characters—some kind of warrior, a mage, and a rogue-ish type—and right away, the sprite work feels chunky and nostalgic in that early '90s way.
The overworld’s got that classic top-down view, but battles switch to this side-scrolling brawler mode that keeps things from getting stale. I remember getting wrecked by the first boss because I didn’t realize you could block (whoops). The music’s got that crunchy FM synth sound too—real "blast from the past" energy.
It’s not perfect—the translation’s a bit rough, and some mechanics aren’t explained well—but there’s something endearing about how it mashes up RPG progression with arcade-y combat. If you’re into obscure retro stuff, this one’s worth a weekend dive.
