About Shanghai Ii - Dragon's Eye (beta)
Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye was released for the Sega Genesis, though it remained in a beta state and was not widely distributed. This version of the tile matching game was part of the platform's diverse library, which included many puzzle titles alongside its more famous action games. It was developed by Activision, continuing their series of digital Mahjong solitaire adaptations that began in the late 1980s.
You control a cursor to select and remove matching pairs of tiles from a multi-layered board. The main objective is to clear the entire board, which is arranged in the shape of a dragon's eye. The game's signature mechanics involve its three-dimensional, stacked tile layouts and the strategic requirement to free tiles buried underneath others; you must always find pairs that are not blocked on their left and right sides. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty increases as the boards become more complex and the number of identical tiles grows. It feels like a quiet, focused exercise in pattern recognition and forward planning.
