Shadow of the Beast on the Genesis is one of those games that looks incredible—like, seriously, the backgrounds and animations were way ahead of their time—but man, it’s brutal. You play as this clawed, beastly dude out for revenge, slashing through weird, gothic landscapes full of floating eyeballs and spike pits. The music’s all eerie synths, and the whole thing feels like a dark fantasy painting come to life.

That said, don’t expect it to hold your hand. The controls are stiff, enemies come out of nowhere, and some jumps feel like pure luck. But there’s something weirdly hypnotic about it—once you get into the rhythm of memorizing enemy patterns and timing your attacks, it’s kinda satisfying. Just don’t be surprised if you die a lot before figuring it out.

If you’re into old-school challenge or just want to see a Genesis flex its artistic muscles, it’s worth a shot. Just keep that rage in check.
