About Shadow Of The Beast
Shadow of the Beast came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed and published by Psygnosis. It was part of that wave of games pushing the hardware with its visual style and sound, standing out among other action titles on the system at the time.
You control Aarbron, a creature on a quest for revenge across a hostile, side scrolling world. Your main goal is to fight through different environments, from forests to dungeons, to confront the evil magician who transformed you. The game plays screen by screen; you move between fixed areas, using a sword for close combat and occasionally a bow for distant enemies. You also collect keys and other items to unlock new paths. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is notoriously high, with limited lives and relentless enemies. Playing it feels like a constant, tense struggle against a world designed to overwhelm you.
