Senjou No Ookami II (or Mercs if you're playing the Western release) is one of those classic arcade shooters that just feels right on the Genesis. You start off blasting through waves of soldiers and tanks with a squad of three commandos—pick your guy, grab some grenades, and go wild. The arcade mode is pure run-and-gun chaos, but the Genesis version throws in an extra "Original Mode" with bigger maps and some light strategy. It's a little slower, but way more satisfying when you flank enemies or blow up a whole convoy.

Honestly, the controls take a second to get used to—your guy moves in eight directions but shoots wherever you aim, so you'll be backpedaling while firing at helicopters like some action movie hero. The music's got that classic Sega bass punch too. If you dig Contra or just want a solid '90s shooter, this one holds up.
