About Saint Sword (japan)
Saint Sword came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed and published by Taito. It was part of that wave of action RPGs on the system, games that tried to blend exploration with real time combat. You don't hear about it as often as some of the bigger titles from that era, but it has its own particular rhythm.
You control a warrior named Gilgram, and your quest is to defeat an evil god. The game plays out screen by screen; you move through forests, caves, and castles, clearing each area of enemies before you can proceed. Your main tools are a sword for close combat and a bow for attacking from a distance. You explore dungeons, solve simple block pushing puzzles, and collect pieces of a sacred sword to increase your power. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, because the difficulty is quite high and enemies respawn quickly if you leave a screen. Playing Saint Sword feels like a careful, persistent push through a hostile and interconnected world.
