Risk on the Sega Genesis, released in 1994 by Parker Brothers, was one of the digital adaptations of the classic board game available during the 16-bit era. It arrived at a time when converting tabletop strategy to a console was still a novel concept, sitting alongside other strategy titles but offering a very specific kind of territorial conquest.

You control colored armies, moving them across a simplified map of the world divided into territories. The main objective is to eliminate all other players by capturing their territories through dice-based combat. Signature mechanics include the initial placement phase, where you secretly distribute your starting forces, and the card exchange system, where you turn in sets of territory cards for massive troop reinforcements. The game's pacing is deliberate, often slow, with the computer opponents providing a stubborn challenge.
