Richard Scarry’s Busytown Game

Richard Scarry’s Busytown on the Sega Genesis is one of those weirdly cozy games that just sticks with you. You’re basically dropped into this little cartoon town where everything’s alive—Huckle Cat’s running around, Lowly Worm’s doing… worm things, and every building has some goofy mini-game or hidden detail to poke at.
At first, it feels like a simple point-and-click adventure for kids (and yeah, it totally is), but there’s something weirdly satisfying about helping Sergeant Murphy solve "crimes" or just wandering through the bakery to see what nonsense the pig baker is up to. The art’s bright and messy in that classic Scarry way, and the music’s got that early '90s Sega charm—peppy, slightly off-key synths that somehow work.
It’s not exactly challenging, but that’s not the point. You’re just hanging out in Busytown, clicking on stuff to see what happens. If you grew up with the books, it’s pure nostalgia; if not, it’s still a weirdly charming time capsule. Just don’t expect any high-speed chases—unless you count Lowly’s apple car, I guess.
