Man, The Revenge of Shinobi still holds up as one of the tightest action games on the Genesis. You play as Joe Musashi, this ninja with a serious grudge, flipping through stages that go from neon-lit city rooftops to creepy ancient temples—sometimes in the same level. The controls are slick, letting you toss shurikens, backflip away from attacks, and even pull off this weird teleport move that takes practice to nail.
And that soundtrack? Yuzo Koshiro went absolutely nuts with it. You’ve got these pounding synth tracks that somehow make fighting a dude in a Godzilla suit feel even more epic. Some of the bosses are total bull (looking at you, Spider-Man knockoff), but figuring out their patterns is half the fun. It’s the kind of game where you’ll die a bunch at first, then suddenly everything clicks and you’re slicing through enemies like a pro.
Still one of the best ninja games ever, no contest.
