About Rent A Hero (japan)
Rent A Hero came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that era on the Mega Drive when developers were willing to try unusual genre combinations, creating games that didn't quite fit into a single category.
You control a regular teenager who signs up with a hero rental service, receiving a powered suit to take on odd jobs for clients. The main objective is to complete these various requests, which range from finding lost pets to confronting bullies. You explore the town screen by screen, talking to townsfolk to get information and find your next assignment. When a situation turns physical, the game shifts to a side-view 2D fighting mode where you punch, kick, and use special moves. The pacing is deliberate, as you often need to figure out where to go and who to talk to next, and some of the combat encounters can be surprisingly difficult. Playing it feels like juggling the mundane life of a student with the sudden, chaotic responsibility of being a local superhero.
