About Ray The Flying Squirrel In Sonic The Hedgehog
Ray the Flying Squirrel appears in the 1993 Sega Genesis game Sonic the Hedgehog, developed by Sega. This was during the platform's peak, when developers were pushing the hardware with fast, colorful games. Ray is a lesser-known character who debuted alongside Mighty the Armadillo in the arcade title SegaSonic the Hedgehog, but his Genesis appearance is limited to a cameo in the Blue Sphere special stages of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
In those special stages, you control Sonic as he runs on a 3D sphere, collecting blue spheres and avoiding red ones. The main objective is to turn all the blue spheres into rings before hitting a red sphere or running out of time. The gameplay is built on quick reflexes and memorizing the sphere's layout; you must constantly adjust your direction to navigate the maze-like paths. It's a tense, disorienting challenge that feels different from the standard side-scrolling levels. Managing your speed while planning your route makes for a frantic and satisfying puzzle.
