About Punisher, The
Capcom released The Punisher for the Sega Genesis in 1994, a time when the console was home to many arcade style action games. It is a side scrolling beat-em-up based on the Marvel character, and you can play as either Frank Castle or Nick Fury. This was a period where licensed games were common, and this one stood out for its direct adaptation of the comic's violent tone.
You control the Punisher, moving from left to right through city streets and enemy hideouts, punching and shooting thugs. The main objective is to fight through waves of gang members to rescue hostages and defeat the Kingpin. Signature mechanics include using picked up weapons like knives and machine guns, performing special screen clearing attacks by pressing both buttons, and occasionally engaging in first person shooting gallery segments.
