About Pro Hockey (japan)
Pro Hockey was released for the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive in Japan, in 1990. It was developed and published by Sega, arriving early in the console's life when sports games were establishing a foothold on the 16-bit system. This title was part of that initial wave, offering a straightforward take on the sport without the complexity of later simulations.
You control a five man hockey team, switching between players to handle the puck, pass to teammates, and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within three periods. Signature mechanics include body checking opponents to separate them from the puck and executing one-timer shots directly from a pass. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponent provides a decent challenge, especially on higher difficulty settings. It feels like a quick, arcade style version of hockey where positioning and timing your hits are key to winning.
