Populous II – Two Tribes on the Genesis is one of those games where you either feel like a genius or a complete fraud, depending on how badly your followers are getting wrecked. You play as a god—cool, right?—but instead of just smiting people, you’re reshaping hills, flooding valleys, and nudging your little worshippers into battle while the other tribe does the same. The terrain tools are weirdly satisfying, like sculpting chaos with earthquakes and volcanoes.
It’s way prettier than the first game, but don’t let that fool you—some of these levels get brutal. Your people start off clueless, building huts in terrible spots, and half the fun is watching them panic when you drop a tornado on their enemies. Or, y’know, accidentally on them. Oops.
If you like old-school strategy where you can be petty and creative at the same time, this one’s still a blast. Just don’t expect mercy from the AI.
