I picked up Pokemon Ultimate End on the Game Boy Color a while back. It was released in 2000, though I'm not sure who exactly made it. It feels like one of those late-era GBC games, the kind that came out when developers were really pushing what the hardware could do before the Game Boy Advance took over.

You control a young trainer on a journey to collect all the Pokemon and become the champion. The main goal is to explore the region, battle other trainers, and defeat the eight gym leaders to qualify for the Pokemon League. A couple of its standout features are the day and night cycle, which affects which Pokemon appear in the wild, and the expanded Pokedex that includes a mix of familiar creatures and new ones. The pacing is steady, but some of the late-game trainer battles can be surprisingly difficult, requiring careful type matchups and strategy. Wandering through the tall grass with the hope of a rare find, then managing your team's health and items before a big fight, gives the whole experience a thoughtful, absorbing rhythm.
