Pokémon Orb is one of those weird little ROM hacks that somehow makes the original Game Boy Color games feel fresh again. You start off in a slightly tweaked region with familiar-but-different Pokémon—some of the sprites look janky in that charming early-gen way, but there are enough surprises to keep you guessing. The first gym leader wrecked me because I didn’t realize type matchups had been shuffled around.

It’s not a full overhaul, more like someone took Pokémon Crystal and gave it a few too many energy drinks. Wild encounters get chaotic fast, and I swear the rival picks fights at the worst possible times. If you’ve played the originals to death and want something just unpredictable enough to trip you up, this’ll do it.
