Pokémon Gold Sunset Horizons is one of those fan-made GBC romhacks that actually feels like it could've been a real release back in the day. The colors are surprisingly vibrant for a Game Boy Color game—sunset oranges and deep blues everywhere, like someone cranked up the saturation just enough without going overboard.

You start with the usual Johto journey, but there are little tweaks everywhere. Some Pokémon have different sprites, routes feel slightly rearranged, and I swear the rival battles hit harder than I remember. Took me three tries to beat the first gym because my Cyndaquil kept getting wrecked by some unexpected movesets.

If you’ve played Gold a hundred times and want something familiar but just different enough to keep you on your toes, this is worth a look. Just don’t expect your old strategies to work perfectly.
