Pokémon Complex Crystal is a beefed-up version of the classic Crystal, with way more Pokémon to catch and some seriously tough battles. Right off the bat, you notice wild encounters include mons from later gens—ran into a Ralts before I even hit Violet City, which was a nice surprise. The level curve’s steeper though, so don’t expect to breeze through gyms like the original.

They’ve also tweaked movesets and added some quality-of-life stuff, like reusable TMs (thank god). The rival’s team actually puts up a fight now, and there are a few new areas to explore if you’re willing to backtrack. Only gripe? Some of the new evolutions require weird items, so you might end up scouring every corner of Johto for that one held item your team needs.

If you’ve played Crystal to death but still want that GBC nostalgia, this’ll keep you busy for a while.
