Pitfall – The Mayan Adventure Game

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure on Genesis is one of those games that looks way better than it has any right to. The jungle backgrounds are lush, the animations are smooth, and those Mayan temple levels? Absolutely dripping with atmosphere. You start off swinging from vines Indiana Jones-style, which feels amazing until you misjudge a jump and land in quicksand for the tenth time.
It's tougher than you'd expect—some of those spike traps come out of nowhere, and the piranha ponds are just mean. But there's something satisfying about finally nailing the timing on those rolling boulder sections. The soundtrack nails that adventurous vibe too, all tribal drums and mysterious temple echoes. Just don't get too attached to Harry's health bar.
This was always the Pitfall game I wished I had as a kid instead of the Atari original. Still holds up if you're into that classic "trial by death" platforming style.
