Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, published by Activision. You control Pitfall Harry Jr., searching for your missing father across a hazardous jungle. Your main goal is to navigate through the ancient ruins, fighting off creatures and uncovering secrets. The gameplay involves careful screen by screen exploration, using a boomerang and a slingshot for combat against bats, spiders, and other enemies. You also spend a lot of time swinging on vines over bottomless pits and searching for hidden items to progress. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring you to stop and figure out the timing for a jump or an enemy pattern, and it can be quite difficult in spots.
