Pit-Fighter on the Genesis was one of those games that looked way cooler in arcades than it actually played at home. You pick from three fighters—a wrestler, a karate guy, and some dude with nunchucks—and then just mash buttons through a series of ugly, digitized brawls. The backgrounds are kinda neat, all grimy back alleys and underground fight clubs, but the actual combat feels stiff as hell.

I remember thinking the wrestler would be overpowered because of his size, but his moves were so slow that the karate guy ended up being way more reliable. And don’t even get me started on the hit detection—half the time your punches just phase right through the other guy. Still, there’s something weirdly charming about how janky it is, especially if you’ve got a buddy to laugh at the terrible animations with. Just don’t expect a deep fighting system.
