Phelios is one of those Genesis shooters that looks way better than it plays—but man, does it look cool. You're this winged dude flying through Greek myth stuff, blasting harpies and cyclops with arrows that get hilariously overpowered if you grab the right power-ups. The music's got that classic Namco arcade vibe, all dramatic and synth-heavy.
First level throws you right into it—dodging pillars, weaving through enemy waves, and suddenly a giant Medusa head shows up. The hitbox on your character feels a little unforgiving, though, so expect some cheap deaths until you get the rhythm. Still, there's something satisfying about watching the screen fill with golden arrows when you max out your shot.
It's not the deepest shooter out there, but the mythology twist and those chunky 16-bit sprites give it personality. Just don't go in expecting R-Type levels of precision.
