Phantasy Star II: Huey’s Adventure is one of those old-school Genesis RPGs that somehow still holds up. You start off as Huey—just some guy trying to make his way in a world that’s equal parts sci-fi and fantasy—and before long, you’re knee-deep in turn-based battles and weird little dungeons.

The pixel art has that classic Sega charm, all chunky sprites and moody colors, and the combat’s simple but satisfying once you get the hang of it. Early on, you’ll probably fumble a bit with the menus (because, yeah, it’s still an ‘80s RPG at heart), but there’s something weirdly cozy about the grind.

If you’ve played the original Phantasy Star games, you’ll recognize the vibe—but even if you haven’t, it’s a solid little time capsule of an era when RPGs were still figuring themselves out. Just don’t expect modern conveniences like auto-saving or waypoints.
