Pele II on the Genesis is one of those old-school soccer games that somehow nails the chaos of the sport without drowning you in complicated controls. You pick a national team—Brazil, obviously—and jump straight into matches that feel fast and a little rough around the edges. The players move with that classic 16-bit stiffness, but once you get used to it, the gameplay’s actually pretty fluid.
Scoring feels satisfying, especially when you pull off a long-range shot that somehow sneaks past the keeper. The AI isn’t exactly genius-level, but it’ll punish you if you just charge forward blindly. And yeah, the graphics are dated, but there’s something charming about those pixelated crowds and oversized goal nets.
If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a solid time capsule from the early ‘90s. Just don’t expect FIFA-level realism.
