Party Quiz Mega Q Game

Party Quiz Mega Q is one of those late-era Genesis trivia games that somehow feels both dated and weirdly charming. You pick from a handful of categories—some are painfully 90s (remember when "extreme sports" was a quiz topic?), but the questions actually have some bite to them. I lost a round on "history" because I blanked on some obscure Roman emperor.
What makes it work is the pacing—no lifelines, no drawn-out animations, just rapid-fire questions with that crunchy Mega Drive soundfont cheering or booing you. Played it with three friends last weekend and it devolved into shouting matches over whether "The Fresh Prince" premiered in 1990 or 1991. The pixelated host guy judging us made it better.
It won’t replace your modern trivia apps, but for a cartridge that probably cost someone $5 at a flea market, it’s way more fun than it should be. Just don’t trust the science category—they still think Pluto’s a planet.
