Man, Paperboy on the Genesis is one of those games that looks simple until you actually try it. You’re just a kid on a bike tossing newspapers at houses, but suddenly there’s a rogue lawnmower barreling toward you, some dude’s dog chasing you down, and if you miss a mailbox? Instant rage from the homeowner. The controls take a second to get used to—timing those throws is weirdly precise.
The neighborhoods get progressively more chaotic, with breakdancers, runaway tires, and even the occasional tornado (because why not?). And if you thought dodging stuff was hard, wait until you hit the training course at the end of each day—those ramps do not forgive mistakes. It’s frustrating in that classic arcade way where you keep saying “one more try” even after your third bike crash in a row.
Still, there’s something satisfying about nailing a perfect throw through a window or finally making it past that one house with the angry guy who always kicks your papers back. It’s pure, dumb fun with just enough challenge to make you feel like you earned it when you finally beat a level.
