Okay, so The Pagemaster on Sega Genesis is one of those weird licensed games from the '90s that somehow works? You play as this kid (basically Macaulay Culkin’s character from the movie) who gets sucked into a magical library. The whole thing feels like a fever dream—you’re dodging flying books, jumping on rolling ladders, and fighting off living ink blobs with… a flashlight? Yeah, it’s bizarre.
The controls are a little stiff, but there’s something charming about the way it mixes platforming with light puzzle-solving. One minute you’re in a horror section avoiding Frankenstein’s monster, the next you’re bouncing through Dr. Jekyll’s lab. The music’s oddly catchy too—that library theme still gets stuck in my head.
It’s not the deepest game, but if you grew up with the movie or just love weird retro platformers, it’s a fun little time capsule. Just don’t expect it to make much sense.
