About Paddle Fighter (seganet)
Paddle Fighter was one of the games you could get through SegaNet, the online service for the Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive. It came out in 1995, a time when the Genesis was still active but newer consoles were starting to appear. The game was developed and published by Sega, and it was part of their effort to offer exclusive content directly to players through a modem. It felt like a late era experiment for the system.
You control a small paddle at the bottom of the screen, similar to the one in Breakout or Arkanoid. Your main objective is to deflect a ball to destroy all the bricks in each stage. The signature mechanics involve catching power ups that fall from broken bricks; these can change your paddle's size, give you a multi ball, or even a temporary laser to shoot bricks directly. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as later stages introduce unbreakable blocks and bricks that move around. It feels like a constant, focused battle against the clock and the layout of each screen.
