PGA Tour '96 on the Sega Genesis was one of those golf games that actually made you feel like you were lining up a putt—even if you were just mashing buttons on your couch. The greens have this weirdly satisfying pixelated sheen, and the swing meter? Brutal if you mistime it, but so rewarding when you nail a perfect drive.

You start off picking from a roster of pros (I always went with Fred Couples for no real reason) and then it’s straight to the first tee. The courses look surprisingly good for a 16-bit game—wind actually affects your shot, and the bunkers are punishing in that way real golf is. Miss a putt by an inch? Yeah, that’s gonna roll downhill fast.

It’s not flashy, but there’s something about the chunky sound effects and the way the ball physics work that just clicks. If you’ve got a Genesis collecting dust, this one’s still a solid round of golf.
