Operation Europe came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, a time when the 16-bit console was full of ambitious war games. I remember picking it up, published by Sega itself, and finding a title that tried to cover the entire European theater of World War II. It was a different kind of strategy experience compared to the more common action platformers on the system.

You take command of either the Allied or Axis forces, moving divisions and managing supply lines across a map of Europe. The main goal is to capture key cities and enemy headquarters through turn-based campaigns. Two mechanics define the game: the detailed terrain system that affects your unit movement and combat effectiveness, and the constant need to manage your supply of fuel and ammunition for your tanks and troops. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the difficulty can be punishing if you overextend a panzer division. Playing it feels like a constant logistical puzzle where a single miscalculation can unravel your entire front line.
