Open Season on the Sega Genesis is one of those games that feels like it got lost in the shuffle back in the day—which is a shame, because it’s actually a solid little platformer. You play as this goofy bear (or a deer, depending on the version), bouncing around forest levels that look like they were ripped straight from a Saturday morning cartoon.
The controls are simple—run, jump, maybe slap an enemy or two—but there’s something satisfying about the way your character moves. The levels aren’t super punishing, but they’ve got enough hidden paths and collectibles to make exploring worth it. And yeah, the music’s got that classic Genesis twang, all crunchy and upbeat.
It’s not gonna dethrone Sonic or anything, but if you’re digging through retro games and stumble on this one, give it a shot. It’s got charm, and sometimes that’s enough.
