Olympic Summer Games Atlanta 96 is one of those classic Sega Genesis sports titles that somehow makes button-mashing feel like an actual athletic event. You start off picking your country (I always went with something obscure for fun) and then dive straight into events like the 100m dash—where your thumb will hate you after five rounds of turbo-speed tapping.

The swimming events are weirdly satisfying once you get the rhythm down, and the diving... well, let’s just say my attempts at perfect form usually ended in a pixelated belly flop. The graphics are pure 90s charm, with chunky sprites and those exaggerated victory animations that make bronze look like a tragedy.

Multiplayer’s where it really shines, though. Nothing like watching your friend panic during the long jump and faceplant into the sand. It’s janky in that nostalgic way, where half the fun is laughing at how ridiculous it all feels now. If you’ve got a Genesis still hooked up, this one’s a solid pick for couch competition.
