Olympic Gold on the Genesis was one of those early '90s sports games that tried to cram in as many events as possible—track, swimming, gymnastics, even weightlifting. It's got that weirdly stiff animation all those licensed Olympic games had, but there's something charming about how janky the pole vault looks when your athlete flops over the bar like a wet noodle.
You'll spend most of your time mashing buttons to build up speed, then timing your jumps or throws at the last second. The 100m dash feels like you're just hammering the controller until your thumb hurts, but the diving events actually require some finesse. The music? Pure early '90s synth cheese, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
It's not the deepest sports sim, but it's a fun time capsule of that era when every major event needed a rushed-out tie-in game.
