Ever played golf on a Genesis? Harukanaru Augusta is one of those weirdly charming early 3D sports games where the polygons are jagged, the greens look like they’re made of construction paper, and yet… you’ll still spend hours trying to nail that perfect swing. The camera angles shift as you line up shots, which felt mind-blowing back in the day—even if your golfer moves like a stiff mannequin.
Don’t expect PGA Tour realism here. The wind physics are brutal, putting is a nightmare (good luck judging slopes with those blocky graphics), and the AI opponents have this uncanny ability to sink impossible shots just to mess with you. But there’s something weirdly satisfying about mastering the clunky controls and finally birdieing a hole after ten failed attempts. Also, the music? Unironically great—like elevator jazz meets "I’m at a 90s driving range."
If you’re into retro sports games with more personality than polish, this one’s a time capsule worth dusting off.
