Technos Japan released Nekketsu Koukou Dodgeball Bu: Soccer Hen for the Sega Genesis in 1992. It was part of the Kunio-kun series, a familiar name to anyone playing Japanese console games at the time. This entry took the energetic school sports theme and applied it to a different kind of field.
You control a team of high school students in a full-field soccer match, but the objective is not just to score goals. You can directly attack opposing players with punches and kicks to temporarily knock them out, clearing a path to the goal. The ball itself is a weapon; a well-timed kick can send an opponent flying. Matches are fast and chaotic, with players constantly being stunned and the ball changing possession rapidly. It feels like a playground brawl disguised as a sports game.
