Naruto: Ninja Destiny on DS is basically a stripped-down, portable version of the console fighting games—but in a good way. You pick your favorite ninja (obviously I went with Rock Lee first) and mash through quick 1v1 battles with simple touchscreen combos. The jutsu animations look surprisingly crisp for a DS game, especially when you pull off a Rasengan or Chidori.
What’s cool is how they adapted the controls—basic attacks are on the buttons, but you swipe the touchscreen for special moves. Took me a few fights to stop accidentally throwing kunai when I meant to dodge, though. The roster’s smaller than the PS2 games, but you’ve got all the key characters up through the Sasuke retrieval arc.
It’s not super deep, but perfect for short bursts when you want that Naruto fighting fix on the go. Just don’t expect a story mode—this is all about the versus battles.
