NFL Football '94 on the Genesis was a big deal back in the day—Sega finally got the full NFL license, so you got all 28 teams and actual player names instead of fake rosters. It’s basically the same engine as Sports Talk Football ‘93, but with way more authenticity. The first thing you notice is the playbook—way deeper than earlier football games, with actual NFL plays and formations. And yeah, Joe Montana’s on the cover, but don’t expect him to carry your team unless you actually know how to read defenses.

Graphics are solid for ‘94—players have distinct stances, and the animations for tackles and catches hold up better than you’d think. The commentary’s still that weird digitized voice from the previous game, which is either charming or grating depending on how many times you’ve heard “TOUCHDOWN!” screamed at you. If you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a time capsule of early ‘90s football before everything went 3D.
