About Nfl '95 (usa, Europe)
NFL '95 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by BlueSky Software and published by Sega Sports. It was part of the yearly football lineup for the 16-bit console, arriving when the Genesis was still a dominant platform for sports games. This was before the shift to 3D polygonal graphics, so it relied on the detailed sprites and fast gameplay the system was known for.
You control a full team of 11 players, switching between the quarterback on offense and a linebacker or safety on defense. The main goal is to outscore your opponent by moving the ball downfield, either by passing or running, and ultimately getting into the end zone. Two key mechanics define the action: the play-calling screen, where you select formations and specific plays from a large playbook, and the player-switching button, which lets you instantly take control of the nearest defender to make a tackle. The game moves at a quick pace, and the computer AI provides a decent challenge, especially on higher difficulty settings where defensive backs react more quickly to passes. It feels responsive and immediate, giving you a real sense of control over the flow of a football game.
