NBA Pro Basketball '94 is one of those Sega Genesis sports games that just feels right. The second you fire it up, you're hit with that classic 90s arcade basketball vibe—bright colors, chunky player sprites, and a court that somehow looks both simple and detailed at the same time.
Controls are straightforward—pass, shoot, turbo—but there's a surprising amount of depth once you start playing. Alley-oops actually work (most of the time), and the AI isn’t afraid to throw some elbows. The animations are a little stiff by today’s standards, but back then, seeing a player stumble after a hard foul felt like next-level realism.
What really sticks with me is the sound design. The squeaking sneakers, the buzzer, that satisfying swish—it all adds up to something weirdly immersive. And if you’ve got a friend around, the two-player mode turns into an absolute trash-talking fest within minutes.
It’s not the deepest basketball sim out there, but it’s pure, fast-paced fun that holds up better than you’d expect.
