Mr Nutz came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, published by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of colorful, cartoonish platformers that filled the 16-bit libraries, sitting alongside games about other animal mascots. You did not see many squirrels with this much attitude back then.

You control Mr Nutz, a squirrel on a mission to stop a dark force from ruining the world's weather. The main goal is to fight through themed worlds, screen by screen, to reach and defeat the bosses. Your primary attack is throwing acorns, which you can charge for a more powerful shot. You also collect stars to fill a super meter; when full, you can unleash a screen clearing special move. The levels are packed with enemies and hazards, requiring careful jumps and quick projectile aim. The pacing is brisk, and some later stages get quite demanding with their enemy placement and platforming challenges. It feels like a solid, energetic run and gun platformer from that era.
