About Monopoly (beta)
Monopoly for the Sega Genesis, released in the early 1990s, was one of the many digital adaptations of the Parker Brothers board game. It arrived during a period when translating board games to 16-bit consoles was a common experiment, offering a different kind of screen time for players at home.
You control a token, moving around the board by rolling dice to buy properties, build houses, and charge rent to bankrupt your opponents. The main goal is to be the last player with any money left. Key mechanics include managing your cash to pay bills and trade properties, and using the "Auction" feature when someone declines to buy a landed-on space. The game can be a slow burn, especially with the maximum number of players, and the computer opponents can be surprisingly aggressive with their own development strategies. It feels like a faithful, if sometimes plodding, translation of the tabletop experience to the television screen.
