Might & Magic Book II on the Genesis is one of those old-school RPGs that feels massive even by today’s standards. You start off with a party of four—knight, sorcerer, cleric, and thief—and immediately get thrown into this sprawling world where half the fun is just figuring out where to go next. The dungeons are brutal in that classic way where you’ll scribble maps on scrap paper just to survive.
Combat’s turn-based but weirdly fast-paced for a ‘90s RPG, and magic feels overpowered in the best way (fireball everything). The pixel art’s got that chunky Genesis charm, and the soundtrack? Absolute bangers. Just don’t expect hand-holding—this game loves to let you wander into areas where you’ll get wrecked by monsters twice your level. Still, there’s something satisfying about finally grinding your way back to stomp them.
If you’re into retro RPGs with real teeth, this one’s a time capsule worth cracking open.
