Micro Machines Turbo Tournament 96 is one of those games that makes you feel like a kid again—racing tiny cars across breakfast tables and pool tables like some kind of toy-sized speed demon. The top-down view takes a second to get used to, but once you do, it’s pure chaos in the best way possible. You’ll be swerving around cereal boxes, dodging forks, and praying you don’t skid off into the sink.
What really makes it shine is the multiplayer. Four players crammed onto a couch, shouting at each other while someone inevitably tries to shove you into a rogue pencil or a puddle of spilled soda. The J-Cart version even had two controller ports built into the cartridge, which was genius back in the day. Some of the later tracks get brutal—good luck staying on a moving conveyor belt while your friends try to sideswipe you into oblivion.
It’s not just nostalgia, either. The controls are tight, the tracks are creative, and the sheer absurdity of racing through a kid’s bedroom never gets old. If you’ve got a Genesis and a few friends, this one’s a no-brainer.
