Michael Jackson's Moonwalker came out in 1990 for the Sega Genesis, published by Sega. It was one of those licensed games that tried to capture a pop culture moment on a 16-bit console. You step into Michael Jackson's shoes, or rather his sparkling socks, to rescue children kidnapped by the villainous Mr. Big.
You control Michael through side-scrolling urban and industrial stages. Your main goal is to find all the missing children hidden in each area before confronting the stage boss. Michael's primary attack is a magical spin move that stuns enemies, allowing you to finish them with a kick. Collecting enough children transforms you into a powerful robot that can fire lasers. The game is structured screen by screen; you clear one section of enemies to progress to the next. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during boss fights.
