McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure is one of those weird, surprisingly fun licensed games from the Genesis era. You play as Ronald McDonald—yes, really—hopping through colorful, slightly surreal levels to collect pieces of a treasure map. The controls are smooth, and the platforming actually holds up better than you'd expect for a fast-food mascot game.
Each stage has this dreamlike quality, with floating islands, giant playing cards, and enemies that look like they escaped from a toy box. The music’s oddly catchy too. I remember getting stuck on the pirate ship level for way too long as a kid, but nailing the jumps felt satisfying once I got the hang of it. Definitely more effort went into this than just slapping Ronald’s face on a cheap cash grab.
If you’re into retro platformers with a side of nostalgia (or just enjoy bizarre gaming history), it’s worth a play. Just don’t go in expecting deep lore—it’s still a McDonald’s game, after all.
