Mary Shelley's Frankenstein on the Genesis is one of those weird licensed games from the '90s—you know, the kind that tried to ride the hype of a movie but ended up feeling kinda rushed. You play as Frankenstein’s monster, lumbering through gloomy villages and labs, smashing stuff and tossing enemies around. The controls are a little stiff, and the platforming can be frustrating, but there’s something oddly charming about the gothic pixel art and the way the monster moves like a tank.
Fun fact: There was also a Sega CD version bundled with Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which honestly sounds like the better deal. The Genesis version isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely more of a curiosity than a must-play. If you’re into weird retro movie tie-ins, though, it’s got that going for it.
