About Man Overboard! (europe)
I first played Man Overboard! on the Sega Genesis back in 1997. It was one of those late releases for the system, published by Codemasters. At a time when many developers were moving to newer consoles, it was interesting to find a new game still arriving for the Genesis, and this one had a particular charm.
You control a shipwrecked sailor trying to get home. The main goal is to navigate a series of single screen rooms, each one a self contained puzzle. You push and pull crates to create pathways, avoid hazards like spikes and enemies, and find keys to unlock doors. The game moves at a deliberate pace; you have to plan your crate placements carefully because a wrong move can block your progress. It feels like a methodical test of your spatial reasoning, where every screen is a small, solvable problem. The satisfaction comes from figuring out the exact sequence needed to reach the exit.
