Madagascar for the Nintendo DS came out in 2005, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of early DS titles, the kind you'd pick up alongside your system, often based on a big movie. This one followed the animated film, letting you play through the story of Alex the lion and his friends as they escape from the Central Park Zoo and eventually find themselves in Madagascar.

You control Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman, switching between them as the story requires. The main goal is to get through the levels, which are mostly side scrolling platforming and some basic combat, like Alex's spin attack. You also do a fair bit of collecting, specifically mangoes hidden throughout the stages, and solve simple puzzles to progress. The game moves at a steady pace and isn't particularly difficult, making it accessible for younger players. It feels like a straightforward, uncomplicated adventure that closely follows the movie's plot.
