Lotus II on the Genesis is basically the cooler older sibling of the original Lotus racer. You’ve got more cars to pick from—some are speed demons, others handle like they’re glued to the road—and the tracks actually feel different this time, not just reskins. First race in, you’re weaving through traffic on a coastal highway, and the sense of speed is ridiculous for a 16-bit game.

It’s got that classic top-down racing vibe where you’re constantly nudging other cars out of the way, but the handling’s tight enough that you don’t feel cheated when you spin out. The music’s all synth and bass, exactly what you’d want blasting while pretending your Genesis controller is a steering wheel. Still holds up if you’re into no-nonsense arcade racers.
