Man, The Lion King on Genesis was one of those games that looked amazing but kicked your butt if you weren’t careful. You start off as young Simba, bouncing on giraffe heads and dodging rhinos in the stampede level—which, by the way, was way harder than it had any right to be. The animation was crazy smooth for its time, with Simba’s little tail flicking as he ran.
Then you grow up, and suddenly you’re swiping at hyenas with your claws. The soundtrack? Absolute fire, just like the movie. But don’t let the Disney charm fool you—some of those platforming sections (looking at you, monkey vines) were brutal. Still, nailing that final Scar fight felt so good.
Definitely one of those "rented it as a kid, got stuck, and now I appreciate it as an adult" games.
