Lemmings 2: The Tribes came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by DMA Design. It was part of that wave of puzzle platformers that really tested your patience and planning on the 16-bit systems. This sequel expanded the world considerably from the first game.

You don't control the lemmings directly, but instead assign skills to them to guide the entire tribe safely to the exit. Your main goal is to lead twelve different tribes, each with their own themed levels, through a series of obstacle-filled screens. The big new mechanics are the specialized lemming classes, like the Builder who creates staircases or the Climber who scales walls, and the need to manage a limited pool of these skills across multiple levels in a tribe. The pacing is methodical, often requiring you to stop the marching line of lemmings to carefully set up a path, and the difficulty can be punishing if your timing is off. It feels like conducting a chaotic, furry orchestra where one wrong note can lead to a tiny, green-haired disaster.
